Cairo – Egypt: A significant conference of Oriental Orthodox and Eastern Orthodox Churches, held on September 16-17, 2024, has issued a call for the Christian world to return to a single date for celebrating Easter.

The conference, held in Egypt, brought together representatives from various Oriental Orthodox and Eastern Orthodox Churches. In their joint communiqué, the participants expressed a desire for all Christians to celebrate Easter according to the Julian calendar, in accordance with the definitions of the First Ecumenical Council of 325.

The year 2025 marks the 1700th anniversary of this council, and as Christians worldwide will celebrate Easter on the same day, the conference representatives believe it is an opportune time to re-establish a unified Easter celebration.

This call for unity is a significant step towards fostering greater harmony and cooperation among the various Christian denominations. It reflects a shared commitment to preserving the ancient traditions and practices of the Christian faith.
