Nicușor Dan Sworn in as Romanian President; Patriarch Daniel Offers Solemn Prayer for Nation

Bucharest-Romania: Nicușor Dan officially took the oath of office as President of Romania on Monday, May 26, 2025, during a solemn ceremony held before the joint chambers of the Romanian Parliament.

The newly inaugurated president swore to “dedicate all my strength and wisdom to the spiritual and material advancement of the Romanian people; to uphold the Constitution and the laws of the country; to defend democracy, the fundamental rights and freedoms of citizens, as well as the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of Romania. So help me God!”

Following the oath, His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, offered a moving prayer for the nation and for all those in leadership positions across Romania, from local administration to the highest offices of the State. Patriarch Daniel’s prayer invoked divine guidance for the country’s leaders, asking for “the spirit of wisdom and justice, which strengthens and exalts nations,” and inspiring in their hearts “love of country and nation.” The prayer highlighted the unwavering faith and love of Romania’s historical figures and faithful, who intercede for the country. In his message to the Romanian people, President Nicușor Dan thanked them for their engagement in recent debates and urged them to “remain fully engaged, with all the social strength you have demonstrated, thus exerting a constructive and positive pressure upon the institutions of the Romanian state, so they may undergo reform.” He also assured the public that he would be “a president attentive to the voice of society and a partner to civil society.”

The inauguration ceremony was attended by representatives of all recognized religions in Romania, including His Eminence Aurel Percă, Archbishop Metropolitan of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Bucharest; Rafael Shaffer, Chief Rabbi of Romania; Her Majesty Margareta, Custodian of the Romanian Crown; and former Presidents Emil Constantinescu and Traian Băsescu. Members of Parliament, representatives of central public institutions, Members of the European Parliament, and accredited diplomatic corps officials were also present.
