Metropolitan Hilarion Thanked Hungarian Government for their Assistance in the Restoration of the Assumption Cathedral in Budapest

Budapest-Hungary: Leader of the Christian Democratic People’s Party, Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of Hungary Zsolt Shemien visited the Assumption Cathedral in Budapest, the cathedral church of the Hungarian diocese on April 29, 2023. The guest of honor was met by the Administrator of the diocese, Metropolitan Hilarion of Budapest and Hungary.
Metropolitan Hilarion thanked the Hungarian government for their assistance in the restoration of the cathedral, after which the temple appeared in its original beauty.
Mr. Shemien got acquainted in detail with the progress and results of extensive restoration work, from the revival of the appearance of the building, the erection of the lost tower and spire, and ending with the professionally performed work inside the temple. The iconostasis of the cathedral is an outstanding example of Orthodox art in Europe, the parties discussed plans for its preservation and restoration.
The Deputy Prime Minister expressed deep satisfaction with what he saw, emphasizing that the Assumption Cathedral has always been one of the architectural dominants of the Danube embankment, forming its unforgettable look, and after the restoration of the cathedral, not only its external splendor returned, but the building itself visually began to appear larger.
During the conversation, the long-term fruitful cooperation between the Hungarian government and the diocese of the Moscow Patriarchate in other areas – cultural exchange, educational activities, social work and charity was noted, and plans for further cooperation were outlined.
