Metropolitan Theodosius of Cherkasy and Kaniv’s House Arrest Extended by Ukrainian Court

Kyiv – Ukraine: The Sosnivka District Court in Cherkasy extended Metropolitan Theodosius of Cherkasy and Kaniv’s house arrest with an electronic bracelet for another two months on 02 November 2023. During the court hearing, the prosecution attempted to accuse the bishop of violating the rules while under house arrest. They mentioned his presence in a public place near a church on 24 October, despite the absence of an air raid warning in the region at that time.

The bishop’s defense argued that he was consulting with his legal team after attending a court session and had the right to communicate with his lawyers. The judge did not approve the defense’s request to change the precautionary measure from house arrest to a personal obligation but allowed the bishop to meet with his lawyers for consultations after court sessions.

Metropolitan Feodosiy faces accusations of inciting religious hatred and justifying Russian aggression. His house arrest began on April 12, 2023, and the next hearing on his case is scheduled for November 13.
