Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk Met with the Delegation of the Orthodox Church in America

Moscow- Russia: On September 16, 2024, a meeting was held at the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate between the Chairman of the DECR, Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, and Bishop Alexy of Sitka and Alaska.
Bishop Alexy was accompanied by the rector of the Church of the Great Martyr Catherine on Vspolye in Moscow, the representative of the Orthodox Church in America to the Moscow Patriarchal Throne, Archpriest Daniel Andreyuk, and the secretary of the Alaska Diocese of the Orthodox Church in America, Archpriest Daniel Charles.
Having warmly welcomed the guest, the DECR Chairman conveyed greetings to the Primate of the Orthodox Church in America, His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon.
Bishop Alexy of Sitka and Alaska told Metropolitan Anthony about church life in Alaska, where Orthodoxy was brought by Russian missionaries, among whom a special place is occupied by Saint Innocent, Metropolitan of Moscow. He also shared his impressions of a pilgrimage within the Russian Orthodox Church.
The meeting participants touched on the topic of celebrating a significant date that will be celebrated in 2025 – the 100th anniversary of the death of St. Tikhon, Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus’, who made a huge contribution to the spread of Orthodoxy on the North American continent.
During the conversation, the situation in the Orthodox world was discussed. The topic of persecution of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church was touched upon.
In prayerful remembrance, Metropolitan Anthony presented Bishop Alexy with a panagia, and Archpriest Daniel Charles with a pectoral cross.
The meeting was also attended by Deputy Chairman of the DECR, Archpriest Igor Yakimchuk.
