Malankara Orthodox Church Delegation Visits Armenian Apostolic Church in Moscow

Moscow- Russia: The delegation from the Malankara Orthodox Church visited the Armenian Apostolic Church in Moscow on 12th March 2025, reinforcing the strong historical and theological ties between the two ancient orthodox christian traditions. The visit aimed to enhance inter-church relations, discuss theological cooperation, and explore future collaborative efforts.

The delegation was led by Metropolitan Yuhanon Demetrios of Delhi, President of the Department of Ecumenical Relations of the Malankara Orthodox Church. He was accompanied by Metropolitan Geevarghese Yulios of Kunnamkulam and Father Ashwin Fernandis, Secretary to the Department of Ecumenical Relations. They were accompanied by Hieromonk Mark of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate.

The representatives were warmly welcomed at the at the church entrance, by Archimandrite Gabriel Sargsyan and Priest Abgar Soghomonyan, the dean of the Cathedral of the Holy Transfiguration of the Lord. They extended greetings and best wishes on behalf of Archbishop Yezras Nersisyan, head of the Diocese of Russia and New Nakhichevan of the Armenian Apostolic Church.

During the meeting, both churches discussed their shared apostolic heritage, theological education, and cooperation in charitable and humanitarian initiatives. The discussions also focused on strengthening ecumenical dialogue and addressing challenges faced by Eastern and Oriental Orthodox churches in the modern world.

The delegation then visited the Cathedral of the Transfiguration of the Lord, where a joint prayer was offered.

This visit marks an important step in deepening ties between the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church and the Armenian Apostolic Church, highlighting their commitment to fostering Christian unity and cooperation. It also underscores the role of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Moscow as a significant center for interchurch dialogue and the preservation of Armenian Christian heritage in Russia.
