Laotian Delegation Visits Moscow’s Christ the Savior Cathedral

Moscow- Russia: A high-level Laotian delegation, led by Inlawan Keobounphan, a member of the Central Committee of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and Deputy Chairman of the Front for National Construction, visited the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow on August 17, 2024.

The delegation was accompanied by the Chargé d’Affaires of the Lao PDR Embassy in Russia, Vongvilai Thiphalangsi, as well as other embassy officials and former Laotian Ambassador to Russia, Siviengphet Phetvorasak.

Upon their arrival at the cathedral, the Laotian delegation was greeted by Archpriest Nikolai Lishchenyuk, Deputy Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, and E.A. Shlineva, Head of the Rossotrudnichestvo Department for Relations with Compatriots and Historical and Memorial Work.

The delegation was given a guided tour of the cathedral, visiting the upper temple, refectory chambers, Patriarchal Hall, Hall of Church Councils, and observation deck. Following the tour, the parties engaged in discussions on cooperation, including the topic of state registration of the Russian Orthodox Church community in Laos.

Inlawan Keobounphan expressed gratitude to the Russian side for the opportunity to visit the Christ the Savior Cathedral, highlighting its significance as a symbol of the strong Lao-Russian relations. She also pledged her support for the establishment of a Russian Orthodox Church community in Laos.

The meeting concluded with an exchange of commemorative gifts.
