‘It is a Fact that the UOC has Found Itself in a Very Difficult Situation from Many Sides’ – Patriarch Ilia of Georgia

Tbilisi -Georgia: ‘It is a fact that the Ukrainian Orthodox Church has found itself in a very difficult situation from many sides’ said Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia His Holiness Ilia II on 25th March 2023 in his letter to Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I, expressing his concerns regarding the persecution of the UOC faithful. Patriarch Ilia mentioned the synodal decision of UOC regarding the separation from the Moscow Patriarchate and steps taken toward negotiations.
Patriarch Ilia asked Ecumenical Patriarch to initiate a mission of peace to ease the tension faced by UOC as a first step towards the mutual rapprochement. Patriarch Ilia concluded by saying that the Orthodox world faces a number of serious challenges and every positive step against this background will be of great value.
