“I Am Saddened by the Tragedy in Kerala”: Patriarch Kirill of Russia on Devastating Landslides

Moscow – Russia: His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia has expressed his condolences following the devastating landslides in the Indian state of Kerala, which have resulted in the loss of hundreds of lives and left many homeless.
In a letter addressed to His Holiness Marthoma Mathews III, Catholicos-Moopan & Malankara Metropolitan of the Malankara Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill conveyed his heartfelt sympathy and support for those affected by the disaster.
“With sorrow, I learned of the tragedy that has occurred in the state of Kerala. The terrible landslides that have struck these areas have claimed and injured hundreds of lives, leaving many without shelter,” wrote Patriarch Kirill.
He added, “I sincerely empathize with the grief that the people of India and the children of the Malankara Church are experiencing today. I ask you to convey my deepest sympathy and support to those affected by this great calamity.”
Patriarch Kirill offered prayers for the victims and their families, seeking comfort and courage for those who have suffered loss. He also prayed for the success of the rescue operations being carried out by the military, rescuers, and medical professionals working tirelessly to overcome the aftermath of the disaster.
“May the Merciful Lord, who comforts us in all our troubles (2 Corinthians 1:4), grant strength to the families of the deceased and fortify the spirits of the injured, sending His help to all those engaged in search operations and those striving to overcome the consequences of this massive natural catastrophe,” he prayed.
The letter concludes with Patriarch Kirill extending his condolences to all those impacted by the tragedy.
