Catholicos Aram I Meets President Joseph Aoun, Emphasizes Unity and National Restoration

Beirut– Lebanon: On Monday, January 20, 2025, His Holiness Catholicos Aram I of the Holy See of Cilicia led a pontifical delegation to congratulate General Joseph Aoun on his election as the President of Lebanon. Representing the Lebanese Armenian Orthodox Community, the delegation included HE Archbishop Shahe Panossian, Prelate of Lebanon, and MP Hagop Pakradounian, representative of the Armenian bloc in the Lebanese Parliament.

During the meeting, His Holiness welcomed President Aoun’s election as a pivotal moment in Lebanon’s history. He praised the President’s inaugural speech for its wisdom and courage, which, he noted, inspired hope among the people. His Holiness emphasized that the President’s role in addressing Lebanon’s challenges should be seen as a mission dedicated to saving the nation.

Highlighting the global and local efforts of the Holy See of Cilicia, His Holiness briefed President Aoun on the church’s initiatives through its prelacies and affiliated structures.

In response, President Aoun expressed his gratitude to His Holiness and the Armenian community for their support and good wishes. He underlined the Armenian community’s vital role in Lebanon’s governance and restoration, calling for collaboration among all communities to guide the country toward prosperity.

As a gesture of goodwill, His Holiness presented President Aoun with a copy of the Gospel of Partserpert, symbolizing unity and spiritual guidance.

Following the meeting, His Holiness and MP Pakradounian held a private discussion with President Aoun to address key issues, including the formation of the new government.

The visit underscored the Armenian community’s commitment to Lebanon’s progress and the church’s role in fostering unity and collaboration during critical times.
