Bishop Sevastianos Named New Atlanta Metropolitan

Atlanta – GA: The Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate has elected Bishop Sevastianos of Zela as the new Metropolitan of Atlanta. The decision was made on Monday, December 2, 2024, following the voluntary resignation of Metropolitan Alexios due to health reasons.
Bishop Sevastianos, currently the Protosyncellos of the Metropolis of Atlanta, was chosen unanimously by the Holy Synod. The election was based on a Triprosopon, a list of three candidates presented by the Eparchial Synod of the Archdiocese of America.
The new Metropolitan, Sevastianos Skordallos, is a seasoned cleric with a rich history of service within the Orthodox Church. Born in Cyprus in 1955, he has served in various parishes across the United States and Cyprus. His extensive experience and dedication to the faith make him well-suited to lead the Metropolis of Atlanta.
The Ecumenical Patriarchate extends its heartfelt gratitude to Metropolitan Alexios for his years of dedicated service to the Church and the community. They wish him a speedy recovery and many blessed years.
