New York- USA: The Executive Committee of the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the United States of America has approved the creation of a new annual award, the Assembly of Bishops’ Medal of Saint Theodora. This decision was made during a recent meeting where the Committee considered and endorsed a proposal put forth by the Director of Operations.

The Medal of Saint Theodora will be a prestigious recognition bestowed each year during the Assembly of Bishops meeting upon one male and one female Orthodox Christian within the United States who have demonstrated exceptional dedication and made significant contributions to fostering Orthodox Christian Unity.

Named in honor of Saint Theodora, a figure known for her piety and service within the Orthodox tradition, the award aims to highlight and celebrate individuals who actively work to bridge divides and strengthen the bonds between the various Orthodox jurisdictions in the United States.

The Assembly of Bishops is expected to release an official announcement in the coming months, which will include details regarding the nomination process for potential candidates. The inaugural bestowal of the Medal of Saint Theodora is anticipated to take place during the Assembly of Bishops meeting in the Fall of 2025.

This initiative underscores the Assembly’s ongoing commitment to promoting collaboration and unity among Orthodox Christians in America and recognizing those who actively champion this vital cause. The Saint Theodora Award is poised to become a significant symbol of the collective pursuit of unity within the Orthodox community in the United States.
