Antelias – Lebanon: Three prominent Armenian spiritual leaders have issued a joint appeal to the Armenian people, urging them to defend the legitimate rights of the people of Artsakh. The appeal comes amidst the ongoing UN Climate Change Conference (COP29) in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The leaders expressed deep concern over Azerbaijan’s recent actions, including the forced displacement of over 120,000 Armenians from their ancestral homeland, the destruction of cultural heritage sites, and the imprisonment of political leaders. They highlighted the international community’s silence on these human rights abuses.
The appeal calls for:
- Advocacy and Awareness: To raise awareness about the ongoing injustice against the Armenian people of Artsakh during the COP29 conference and demand their right to return to their homeland.
- Mobilization of Resources: To mobilize resources and engage with political, governmental, and diplomatic circles to defend the rights of Artsakh Armenians.
- Prayers for Prisoners: To hold special prayers for the release of Armenian prisoners of war and political detainees held by Azerbaijan.
The leaders emphasized the need for unity and a pan-Armenian approach to address the challenges facing the Armenian nation. They called for prioritizing national values over other considerations.
