Tirana – Albania: On August 2, 2024, the Albanian Orthodox Church commemorated the 32nd anniversary of the enthronement of Archbishop Anastasios as the head of the Church. This significant milestone marks a period of remarkable resurgence for the Church, which had been severely suppressed under communist rule.

Archbishop Anastasios’ enthronement in 1992 marked the beginning of a new era for the Albanian Orthodox Church. Faced with the daunting task of rebuilding the Church from the ground up, the Archbishop led efforts to restore churches, train clergy, and reintegrate the Church into the fabric of Albanian society.

Today, the Church has flourished under his guidance, with numerous churches rebuilt, a thriving clergy, and a strong presence in the community. The Archbishop’s dedication and leadership have earned him deep respect and affection among the Albanian Orthodox faithful.

A special Divine Liturgy was held at the Cathedral of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary in Tirana to mark the occasion, attended by Archbishop Anastasios, other Church leaders, and clergy.
