Addis Ababa- Ethiopia: Orthodox youths from all corners of Addis Ababa gathered at the Cathedral of the Holy Savior to participate in a Vigil of Hymns held on the Eve of Christmas, a first of its kind. The much-anticipated event, organized by the association dedicated to the Ethiopian Eunuch, attracted an overwhelming number of attendees on Saturday, January 6, 2024. The event was named “ye aelafat zemare” “የአእላፋት ዝማሬ” which mean the hymn of 10 thousands.
His Holiness Abune Mathias, Patriarch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, graced the occasion and blessed the proceedings. In an address to the faithful, the Primate emphasized the crucial significance of peace and extended his wishes for the continuation of the program in the years to come. Joining His Holiness was the Archbishop of Addis Ababa, Abune Henok, who lauded the gathering of devout followers.
The Archbishop stated that the Vigil of Hymns was slated to take place at Mesqel Square and Jan-Meda. However, due to security concerns, the location was shifted to the Grand Cathedral of the Holy Savior at Bole after discussions with Addis Ababa City Administration.
In light of this successful event, His Grace extended his appreciation to Deacon Henok Haile, the visionary founder of the association dedicated to Orthodox youths. The association aims to strengthen the faith of the young and foster a sense of unity and harmony among its members.
As the hymns echoed through the sacred compound of the Cathedral, the voices of the orthodox youths reverberated a message of hope, peace, and unity for a country grappled by civil war and drought.
