Tbilisi -Georgia: A delegation from the Republic of Azerbaijan visited the Patriarchate of Georgia on September 28, 2023. The Azerbaijani delegation included Mr. Mubariz Gurbanli, Chairman of the State Committee of Religious Associations of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Faig Guliyev, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Georgia, Sheikh Ul Islam Allah Shukur Pasha-Zade, the first deputy of the spiritual leader of the Caucasus Muslim Division, and Haji Salman Musaev.
Representing the Patriarchate of Georgia were Metropolitan Andrew (Gvazava) of Gori and Athens, Bishop Giorgi (Jr.) of Marneuli and Hujabi, Deacon Petre (Khumarashvili), and other clergy associated with historical Hereti.
During the meeting, discussions centered on the relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia, the current situation in historical Hereti, and global events. Both sides emphasized the importance of peace and friendship among the peoples of the Caucasus region.
Metropolitan Andria (Gvazawa) specifically addressed the issue of the desert and Chichkhituri monasteries within the Davit Gareji monastery complex. He highlighted the sensitivity of this matter for Georgians and expressed hope for its peaceful resolution, which would further strengthen the relationship between the two countries.
Gratitude was expressed for the improved cooperation between the respective services of both countries, particularly benefiting the Orthodox communities in Hereti. The Azerbaijani side conveyed its readiness to support the parishes in compliance with Azerbaijani legislation.
Furthermore, during the meeting, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the Tbilisi Theological Academy-Seminary and the Institute of Theology of Azerbaijan, emphasizing the mutual desire to deepen the dialogue and enhance neighborly relations.
