Catholicos Karekin II Meets Artsakh Officials to Discuss Displacement Crisis and Rights Protection

Yerevan-Armenia: On October 8, 2025, His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, received a high-level delegation of state officials and political representatives from Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) at the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin.
The delegation was led by Acting President Ashot Danielyan and included the Primate of the Artsakh Diocese, His Eminence Bishop Vrtanes Abrahamyan. The primary focus of the meeting was addressing the ongoing humanitarian crisis, specifically the challenges faced by the displaced Armenian population of Artsakh and the urgent necessity of protecting their rights following their displacement.
Church Commitment to Social and Spiritual Care
During the discussions, the Catholicos outlined the comprehensive support initiatives spearheaded by the Mother See. Reference was made to the social support programs currently being implemented, alongside the essential spiritual care work offered to the Artsakh people in their temporary places of residence.
His Holiness emphasized the enduring role of the Church in this crisis, stating that the Armenian Church “will continue to make efforts in this direction,” ensuring both material aid and spiritual comfort remain available to the displaced community.
Call for Joint Action on International Platforms
A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to strategizing a unified international approach. The interlocutors collectively stressed the importance of mounting joint consistent steps on international platforms to secure justice for the people of Artsakh.
