Metropolitan Sergius of Singapore and Southeast Asia with Laotian Parliamentary Speaker

Moscow- Russia: On December 9,2024, a meeting was held in Vientiane between the Patriarchal Exarch of Southeast Asia, Metropolitan Sergius of Singapore and Southeast Asia, and the Chairman of the National Assembly of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Saysomphone Phomvihane.
During the conversation, which took place in the National Assembly of the Lao PDR, the Patriarchal Exarch conveyed greetings to S. Phomvihan from His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’. Metropolitan Sergius spoke about the activities of the Russian Orthodox Church both in Russia and abroad, as well as the current state of affairs in the Patriarchal Exarchate of Southeast Asia.
The archpastor expressed gratitude to the Chairman of the National Assembly of Laos for assistance in establishing the parish of the Holy Blessed Grand Duke Alexander Nevsky in Vientiane. In turn, Saysomphone Phomvihane highly praised the activities of the Russian Orthodox Church in the Southeast Asian region. The parties then discussed a wide range of issues covering various aspects of cooperation and interaction, the exarchate’s Telegram channel reports.
The meeting was attended by: Chairman of the International Relations Committee Mr. Sanya Proseth; Chairman of the Ethnic Committee Mr. Khamchan Sotopaseuth; Deputy Chairman of the Lao Front for National Construction Ms. Inlawan Keobounphan; Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Mr. Nisith Keopanya; Rector of the Parish of the Blessed Prince Alexander Nevsky in Vientiane, Priest Dimitry Lavrentiev; representatives of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Laos.
