Metropolitan Antony: Ukraine’s Plight Mirrors Kosovo’s Tragedy

Belgrade – Serbia: In a recent interview with TV Hram, Metropolitan Antony of Volokolamsk, the head of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, drew a parallel between the situations in Ukraine and Kosovo. He expressed deep concern over the ongoing persecution of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
Metropolitan Antony emphasized the strong bond between the Russian and Serbian Orthodox Churches, highlighting their shared history and mutual support. He expressed gratitude for Serbia’s unwavering support for Russia in the face of challenges, particularly in Ukraine.
The Metropolitan also criticized the actions of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, accusing it of causing divisions within the Orthodox world through the recognition of the Uncanonical Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU). He argued that this move was a violation of canonical norms and a threat to Orthodox unity.
By drawing parallels between the situations in Ukraine and Kosovo, Metropolitan Antony underscored the importance of solidarity among Orthodox nations in the face of external pressures and internal divisions. He called for continued prayer and support for the persecuted Orthodox communities in both regions.
