8 Orthodox Faithful Slaughtered on a Riverbank in Oromia, Ethiopia

Addis Ababa- Ethiopia: The plight of Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo believers continued in Oromia Regional State of Ethiopia as eight faithful were killed in the locality of Muda Senkeli of Lome district. The faithful were members of Muda Saint Gabriel Church found in East Shewa Diocese and were taken from their homes in the night of Saturday, September 28, 2024 and slain at the small river of Jebisa by “unknown gunmen”. The military later removed the bodies of the victims and placed them at their parish, Saint Gabriel the Archangel’s Church.

His Grace Abune Gorgorios, the Archbishop of the area, expressed his grief while the diocese stated that such acts would not be forgiven in the face of history and stressed that all should work for peace.

Targeted killings of archimandrites, monks, priests, clergy, and the faithful at large in East Shewa has been ongoing for the past few years. This attack comes two days after a priest and his entire family were slaughtered in the same district.
