Archimandrite Meletius (Spasov) Consecrated as the Bishop of Znepol

Sofia – Bulgaria: The Holy Synod of Bishops of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church has unanimously decided to ordain Archimandrite Meletius (Spasov) as Bishop of Znepol.
The decision was made at the Synod’s regular meeting on September 10, 2024, under the chairmanship of His Holiness the Bulgarian Patriarch Daniil. The proposal to ordain Archimandrite Meletius was put forward by Metropolitan Nikolay of Plovdiv.
The episcopal ordination took place on September 15, 2024, at the Patriarchal Cathedral “St. Alexander Nevsky.” Bishop Meletius will continue his ministry as rector of the Sofia Theological Seminary “St. John of Rila.”
Archimandrite Meletius (Spasov) was born in Sofia in 1985. He graduated from the Faculty of Theology of Sofia University and holds a master’s degree in classical philology. He has served as a monk, hierodeacon, and hieromonk in various monasteries and has also held positions at the Sofia Theological Seminary.
In his address to the newly ordained Bishop Meletius, Patriarch Daniil emphasized the importance of the bishop’s role as a shepherd and guardian of his flock. He urged Bishop Meletius to serve with selfless love and self-devotion and to strive for unity among the faithful.
The episcopal ordination was attended by numerous bishops, clergy, and faithful from the Bulgarian Orthodox Church. The service was followed by a reception in honor of the new bishop.
