32,092 Souls Became Orthodox Christians in Ethiopia in 2022/23

Addis-Ababa-Ethiopia: According to the report presented by the Diocese of South Omo during the Global 42nd General Spiritual Parish-Council Assembly of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church (that started on October 16 and which will end on the 21st), 21,798 people in its ministerial district converted from unbelief, 2,916 converted from Protestantism, and 327 converted from Islam in the past Ethiopic year (2015 [2022/23]) to Orthodoxy. The evangelization of South Omo has been a major focus for the Archbishop of the Diocese, His Grace Abune Filipos – Head of Holy Trinity University, as well as different Church-affiliated organizations, particularly Dejochish Ayzegu and Mahibere Kidusan, who have been active in the area for some time now.

In related news, the Diocese of Sidama announced in its annual report that 1,748 new followers were baptized in the past year after implementing village outreach programs. Despite being in a conflict-ridden region, the Metekel Diocese likewise reported that 1,017 new converts were baptized in the last Ethiopic year. On the other hand, East Shewa Diocese reported that 629 believers were baptized in the past Ethiopic year following evangelization efforts conducted in the local language. Although it had lost 83 of its faithful to other religious organizations, Hadiya and Silte Diocese reported 1,126 new converts. Similarly, Wolaita Diocese reported that it had gained 2,531 new believers.
