Deep Sorrow and Protest Over the Persecution of Metropolitan Jonathan : Pope Tawadros II

Cairo-Egypt: His Holiness Pope Tawadros II of the Coptic Orthodox Church expressed deep sorrow and protest over the persecution of Metropolitan Jonathan of  Tulchyn and Bratslavin of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the letter sent to His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia on August 29, 2023. In the letter, the Coptic Pope also noted “We sent a protest to the Embassy of Ukraine in Cairo, since the clergy should not become victims of political conflicts.” 

Vinnytsia City Court on August 07, 2023, sentenced Metropolitan Jonathan of Tulchyn and Bratslav to 5 years in prison. The verdict was part of the continuing persecution against the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

Pope Tawadros II also issued a statement in April 2023 in support of the Dormition Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.
