WATERVLIET — St. Basil’s Russian Orthodox Church displayed the streaming Icon of St. Anna on Friday.

According to information from St. Tikhons Monastery (sttikhonsmonastery.org), in May 2004, the icon began to stream myrrh in the Russian Orthodox Church of Our Lady of Joy of All Who Sorrow in Philadelphia.

A parishioner reported the icon, which depicts the Mother of the Virgin Mary, seemed to be “perspiring,” with visible liquid streams and droplets. The fragrant, slightly oily liquid, commonly referred to as myrrh, initially was described as looking like teardrops. Later, small, slow-moving streams of myrrh appeared in other parts of the Icon.

It is described as having a wonderful fragrance but no longer weeping. The faithful attribute assistance and healing to the icon.
