UNESCO World Heritage Centre Delegation Visits Mother See

Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin – october 2016

A delegation of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre visited the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin on 05 October. His Eminence Archbishop Nathan Hovhannisyan, Director of the External Relations and Protocol Department, welcomed the delegation to the spiritual center of All Armenians.

During the meeting, they discussed the activities being carried-out by the Centre for the preservation of world heritage sites, and their goals in visiting Armenia.

Archbishop Nathan emphasized the importance of the Centre’s mission and talked about the conservation issues for Armenia’s sacred heritage sites, and the challenges in Armenia and other countries. Archbishop Nathan also expressed concern about Christian heritage given the rate of destruction of religious and national identity artifacts in a number of countries.

The delegation members stated that they had begun their tour of Armenia with a visit to the Mother See, and highlighted the cooperation with religious institutions and organizations for the preservation of religious heritage.

During the meeting, Archbishop Nathan presented the history and historical mission of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, and informed about the delegation on the process of the restoration work on the Mother Cathedral, praising the active support and assistance of UNESCO in organizing the work.

The meeting was attended by Rev. Fr. Asoghik Karapetyan, Director of the Museums and Archives of the Mother See.
