Constantinople -Turkey: “The responsibilities of our Throne are not negotiable. They cannot be surrendered. And they cannot be disposed” stated Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople on his name data celebration that was held on the 11th of June 2021. Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew presided over the liturgy at the Patriarchal Church, on the occasion of the feast of Apostles Bartholomew and Barnabas which also marks his name day. According to the Archons portal the Primate of Constantinople also stated that “We have, and we recognize that we have a singular responsibility among the Orthodox as Archbishop of Constantinople.”

The statement was made during one of the most turbulent times for the Byzantine Orthodox Churches. The split between the Churches of Constantinople and the Church of Russia over the canonical crisis in Ukraine has resulted in an unprecedented split between the member Churches of the Eastern Orthodox communion.
