This issue of The Orthodox Word begins with the account of the life and witness for Christ of New Hieromartyr Alexander (Trapitsyn), archbishop of the Samara diocese of Russia. St. Alexander’s struggles on behalf of the Faith were not unlike those being faced by Orthodox Christians at the present time, when the love of many has grown cold and belief in God is undergoing subtle (and not-so-subtle) persecution in the “free West.” In every diocese in which St. Alexander served as a bishop, he worked untiringly to raise the level of piety of his flock, and to succour those in need. In the end, he courageously confessed the Faith before the God-hating Bolshevik regime, for which he was martyred in 1938.

This is followed by the second instalment of the Explanation of the First Epistle to the Corinthians by Blessed Theophylact of Ochrid.

The issue concludes with the cumulative Orthodox Word index for 2019.

The print version of this issue can be ordered online here, and the digital version can be ordered here.
