The Foot Bridge At Snagov Monastery Consecrated And Inaugurated

On 20 November 2010, His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, consecrated the footbridge at Snagov Monastery. Many faithful attended the religious service, among whom the Governor of the National Bank, Mugur Isarescu, and Minister of Tourism, Elena Udrea, informs Trinitas Radio station.

In the speech delivered after the consecration, His Beatitude said: “From this day forward, Snagov Monastery is no longer isolated and forgotten, because it can be visited easier. The new footbridge can be called the Bridge of the Mother of God of Snagov, or the Bridge of Prayer, or the Pilgrims’ Bridge, especially since it was consecrated and inaugurated today, 20 November 2010, on the eve of the dedication day of this monastery: Presentation of the Mother of God in the Church (21 November).

The bridge or the footbridge has a practical and a symbolical function too. The bridge helps man to overcome an obstacle on his way: a river, precipice, or a deep valley. Because the bridge links or brings closer two distant or different points it becomes the symbol of communication and communion, a way of rapprochement and meeting among people, regions and peoples. From a spiritual point of view, the bridge is the symbol of negotiation, intercession, even of prayer which unites heaven and earth, man and God, the living and the dead.”

To end with, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel offered distinctions to those who contributed to the building of Snagov Monastery. From now on, it will help the faithful to reach the holy place of worship easier, as only the boat was used so far to go to the monastery.

Snagov church monastery dedicated to the “Presentation of the Mother of God in the Church” was founded by Saint Prince Neagoe Basarab, and it is the oldest Monastery of the Archdiocese of Bucharest.
