Te Deum at the Patriarchal Cathedral of Romania

On 29 September 2014, the Te Deum service was celebrated in the Patriarchal Cathedral by His Grace Corneliu, Bishop of Husi, assisted by a group of priests and deacons, in the presence of His Beatitude Daniel, Archbishop of Bucharest, Metropolitan of Muntenia and Dobrudgea, Locum tenens of the Throne of Caesarea of Cappadocchia, Archbishop of Timisoara and Metropolitan of Banat Locum tenens, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, of the members of the Holy Synod and of the Church National Assembly. *

Today, the constitutive meeting of the Church National Assembly of the Romanian Orthodox Church for the period 2014 – 2018 will take place at the “Patriarch Justinian” Social Cultural Centre of the “Patriarch Justinian” Faculty of Orthodox Theology.

According to the Statutes for the Organisation and Functioning of the Romanian Orthodox Church, the Church National Assembly is the central deliberative body of the Romanian Orthodox Church for administrative, social, cultural, economical and patrimonial issues, having been made up of the members of the Holy Synod and three representatives of each eparchy, one clergy and two laics, delegated by the eparchial assemblies for 4 years time. They can be delegated for two mandates at last (articles 19 and 20).

The daily agenda includes the validation of the mandates of the clergy and laic representatives of the eparchies, constitution of the Church National Assembly and appointment of the members in the standing commissions of the Assembly (Administrative-Juridical Commission and for validation, Social Commission and for media communications, Cultural and Educational Commission, Economical, budgetary and estate patrimonial – church Commission, and Commission for the Romanian Orthodox faithful from abroad).

Also elected will be the members of the Church National Council, central executive body of the Holy Synod and of the Church National Assembly, made up of one clergy and one laic person representing each metropolitanate of the country, appointed for four years time, and for two mandates at last (articles 28 and 29 of the Statutes).
