His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II Meets the Displaced People in Shaklawa

On August 22nd 2014, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II visited the town of Shaklawa where the people who fled from Mosul are residing, their camps and churches. His Eminence Mor Dionysius Jean Kawak, Patriarchal Office Director accompanied His Holiness in visit. People in the camps presented their concerns and the problems. His Holiness promised to carry their demands to the international fora.

He spoke to them of the necessity to have international protection for the Christians in the Nineveh Plains to enable them to live in peace and in preparation of having self-administration of their affairs. In turn, the displaced people assured His Holiness of their desire to return to their homes in Mosul provided they get protection and compensation for their loss. His Holiness emphasized that it is necessary to remain attached to their roots while dignity are respected. He added that the human rights can only be observed when international protection is applied.

His Holiness Meets Syrian Orthodox Priests of Mosul

On August 21, 2014, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II met the Syrian Orthodox priests of Mosul who are currently in the region of Kurdistan in the presence of their Eminences Mor Nicodemus Daoud Sharaf, Archbishop of Mosul and Environs and Mor Dionysius Jean Kawak, Patriarchal Office Director.

His Holiness blessed the priests with fatherly words, encouraging them to continue their humanitarian work. He discussed with them the tragic events in Mosul and the Nineveh Plains. He listened to their concerns and gave the necessary advice to help them face the crisis. His Holiness thanked His Eminence Archbishop Daoud and the priests for their efforts and prayed to give them strength, hope and faith.
