Munster: A presentation and lecture on the Pan-Orthodox activities of Orthodoxy Cognate PAGE Society was held at the Westphalian Wilhelm University Münster (W.W.U.) on 19th September 2014.
The Conference was part of the inter-university study programme on “Christianity in Asia” European Summer School – Intensive Study Programme (I.S.P.)
The lecture was made by Ms Maria Sidiropoulou (M. Th. Student – Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (A.U.T.H.) – Greece. The lecture was part of the conference titled “Orthodoxy presence in Asia: Churches and NGO’s (Korea, Hong-Kong, Singapore, Japan, and India)” hosted by the Institute for Missiology and the Study of Theologies beyond Europe. The talk was made during the Student Research Presentation session. The Thematic Unit was ‘Cross-Cultural Flows and Pan-Asian Movements of Asian Christianity’
The session was moderated by Scientific Officer Professor Dr. Norbert Hintersteiner.
The Lecture
Maria lectured on the presence of various Orthodox Christian communities in various parts of Asian continent. She also gave special emphasis on the details of Christian communities in South East Asia. She talked on the history and development of various Orthodox Churches in Asia well on pan-Asian Christian movements.
OCP Society and Pan-Orthodox Movement
A major part of the presentation dealt with the pan-orthodox movement of Orthodoxy Cognate PAGE Society. She explained the purpose and mission of the OCP Society and also focused on the exclusive pan-orthodox nature and activities of the organization. Maria made special emphasis on the details of OCP initiatives that are aimed at the concilliar unification of Eastern and Oriental Orthodox Churches through dialogue and action.
Ms Maria Sidiropoulou is an associate of the OCP Society and has been a supporter of the pan-orthodox activities.
Maria – Biography
Maria Sidiropoulou was born in Xanthi, Greece, in 1990. She completed undergraduate studies in Theology, in the School of Theology at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece (2012). In 2012, she was admitted to the graduate program at the School of Theology of the Faculty of Theology of the same university, specializing in the Sociology of Religion. Her research interests include Sociology, the Sociology of Religion, Theology and generally Religion in the public sphere. Her Master’s Thesis deals with the role of Religion and Identity in a Religious Community. She speaks Greek, English, German, reads and writes in Ancient Greek and Braille (system of writing for blind people). During her studies, she attended and participated conferences in Greece and abroad. Today, having completed the two-year cycle of Postgraduate Studies, she is in the process to support her diplomatic thesis.
