New Publication on Churches in Tbilisi

Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin – August 2016

With the blessings of His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians; the Publishing Department of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin has published a research book entitled: “The St. Gevork of Mughni and St. Nshan Armenian Churches of Tbilisi (History and Annals)” written by Mr. Armen Asatryan.

This book, which is a part of the series: Armenian Churches in Tbilisi; is a brief compilation dedicated to the history and annals of two well-known Armenian churches of Tbilisi, Georgia. The history of the St. Gevorg and St. Nshan churches from the beginning to present days, is being presented for the first time. Included with the archival documents, the author has presented details concerning the activities of the monks and Diocesan Council members, as well as lists of the parish families and their statuses. Also included is the 1841 parishioner list for both churches.

The book also includes information on the monastic complex and the activities of the church parish schools.

The work is rich with many unpublished documents, pre-soviet press stories and old photos; that were being kept in the Mesrop Mashtots Manuscript Repository of Yerevan, and the Armenian National Archives.

The book was published by the patronage of the Sarkis Gabrielyan Foundation.
