Flowers Laid on the Tomb of the Great Armenian Writer

Armenian Orthodox Church in Georgia – February 2015

The birthday of the great Armenian writer Hovhannes Tumanyan was on February 19. As every year, Armenians of Tbilisi visited Khojivanq Pantheon, where lies the Great Loretsi, and paid their respects and love to the great Armenian writer.  The Primate of the Armenian Diocese together with the clergy delivered a commemorative service near the gravestone of the Great Tumanyan.

At the end of the service, His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan thanked Tbilisi’s Armenian intelligentsia for honoring the memory of the greats of our nation. The Primate appreciated highly the help provided by Tbilisi City Hall and RA Ministry of Diaspora for the maintenance of Khojivanq Pantheon.

Poetess and translator Anahit Bostanjyan referred to the tradition of giving books, initiated 10 years ago by, the greatly lamented, Levon Ananyan, on the birthday of Hovhannes Tumanyan. She continued the tradition and gave books from her private library to the people who were there.

The editor of “Vrastan” (“Georgia”), Van Baiburtyan noted with regret that young generation doesn’t read much these days. He encouraged everyone to love books and to get involved in nice tradition of giving books.

The students from the recitation group of the “Hayartun” center (teacher, Samvel Elbakyan) declaimed few verse poems of Hovhannes Tumanyan. The representatives of Tbilisi’s Armenian intelligentsia, the teachers and students of the “Hayartun” center creative groups laid flowers on the tombs of the Greats of the Armenian nation.
