Anahit Bostanjyan – Poetess and Translator Who Connects Armenian and Georgian Literatures

On February 17, 2015 the 65^th birthday anniversary of famous poetess and translator Anahit Bostanjyan and 40^th anniversary of her literary activity was celebrated in Tbilisi Writers House. She is the author of many proses and poems, a dedicated woman, who connects Armenian and Georgian literatures.

Famous Georgian writers, connoisseurs of Anahit Bostanjyan’s works, people, who appreciate the amity between two nations, gathered in the hall. The evening was attended by the Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan, diplomats from the RA Embassy in Georgia, editors and other guests.

Makvala Gonashvili opened the evening and called it “the festival of love and amity of nations”. The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of RA to Georgia, Yuri Vardanyan, the president of Writers Union of Armenia, Edward Militonyan and the head of Tbilisi City Hall Cultural Department, Ia Maqatsaria, sent congratulatory messages.

In his speech the president of Georgian Writers Creative Union, Revaz Mishveladze, noted that “two Christian nations have many things in common with regard to the fate, history, customs and traditions”. He called the evening “the feast of Armenian and Georgian amity” and Anahit Bostanjyan “a woman devoted to the literature of both nations.” Anahit Bostanjyan received Ana Kalandadze Prize from the president of Georgian Writers Creative.

The Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan congratulated talented poetess and wished her prosperity and new achievements. He gave her one the paintings of Giovanni Vepkhvadze with old Tbilisi views. “Nerses Shnorhali” youth song ensemble performed “Yerevan” and “Tbiliso” songs as a gift from the “Hayartun” center of the Diocese.

Anahit Bostanjyan is not only the author of more than forty books but also a journalist and the editor of “Kamurj” annual. At the evening poet Jansugh Charkviani, “Tsiskari” journal’s editor Baghater Arabuli, poetess Mzia Khetaguri, writer Revaz Adamia, poet and translator Givi Shahnazar, writer Badri Kutateladze, “Vrastan” (“Georgia”) newspaper’s editor Van Baiburtyan, the president of the Union of Armenians of Georgia Henrikh Muradyan, professor Emma Akhtyan, historian Norair Baghdasaryan and many others expressed their words of appreciation to her for preserving and strengthening centuries-old amity of Armenian and Georgian people.

Musician Vazha Azarashvili, singer Irma Sikhadze and poetess’s grand-daughter Liza Torosyan adorned the evening by their performances. The words of the song performed by Henrikh Petrosyan were written by Anahit Bostanjyan.

This evening of love and amity dedicated to the 65^th birthday anniversary of Anahit Bostanjyan and 40^thanniversary of her literary activity became the event of the rapprochement of Armenian and Georgian literatures.
