Addis Ababa: His Holiness Abuna Mathias was consecrated as the Sixth Patriarch and Catholicos of Ethiopia, Ichege of the See of St. Tekle Haymanot, Archbishop of Axum enthroned at Addis Ababa on March 3rd Sunday 2013. His Holiness Beslius Paulose II, Catholicos of the East on the Apostolic Throne of St Thomas and Malankara Metropolitan – Primate of the Indian Malanakra Orthodox Church was chief guest of honor. A high level delegation from the Indian Malankara Orthodox Church took part in the consecration ceremony. Delegations from sister Orthodox Churches of Coptic, Armenian, and Eastern Orthodox Churches. Fr Dr Jossi Jacob Indian Orthodox Church delegate to Ethiopia and Faculty at Holy Trinity Theological College accompanied the Indian Church delegation throughout the consecration ceremony.

Patriarchal administrator Abune Nathaniel and Ethiopian Archbishops lead the consecration ceremony. Sister Orthodox Churches delivered their sermons during the ceremony.

Roman Catholic and Anglican Church representations were also present for the occasion.
