Church Ranks for Three Military Priests

On 28 June 2012, three military priests of Bucharest garrison were awarded the rank of iconom stavrofor. The religious service was celebrated by His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, in the chapel of the Patriarchal Residence with Saint Great Martyr George as saint patron.

The Patriarch of Romanian emphasised in the sermon delivered the importance of the priest’s service with the Romanian militaries.

“This co-operation between the Church and the Army in several fields can be seen especially in the spiritual pastoral activity of the priests in the military units. It is a moment of joy and congratulation too, because this rank of cross bearing iconom or stravrofor, as said in Greek, is a sign of gratitude and confirmation of the activity developed, as well as an urge to future activity. The cross also shows the sacrifice made, and the capacity to continue the work useful to the community too, here especially to the military units”, also said His Beatitude, as Trinitas Radio station informs us.

The rank of iconom stavrofor was awarded the military priests as a reward for the missions accomplished in the military units they serve.
