A Christmas charity competition on sport martial arts for the prizes of the Metropolitan Filaret, Honorable Patriarchal Exarch of all Belarus, was held in the city of Minsk, the capital of Belarus. One of the participants of the competition was the grandson of the Belarusian President – 10-year-old Alexandr Lukashenko.
The main judge of the competition Alexandr Kraevich notes in his interview to the portal Sobor.by: “Of course, most of the participants of our tournament are the Orthodox Christian children. You have seen that many kids here wear crosses on their necks. But Muslim children also take part in our competition. This tournament showed us that Muslims and Christians are side by side, they are showing their skills and helping to those in need”.
Around 300 athletes at the age from 7 to 30 years took part in the competition. All the participation fees paid by the athletes were spent on the needs of the people living in the psychoneurological residential facilities of Minsk and Minsk Region.
One of the competition organizers, protodeacon Maxim Logvinov explains: “When you feel that you are tired of your life problems, go to any residential care, for example in Molodechno, Cherven, go to Tarasiki or Kul, look into these eyes and you will see the sky! You will stop to be so obsessed with worldly things. That is why we have such a big holiday today – because we can look into the divine eyes of our guests, of our friends from the psychoneurological residential care homes who came to us”.
Victor Lukashenko, the elder son of the Belarusian President, also took part in the competition together with his son Alexandr who was first among the participants of his age category in kumite style. Journalists asked Alexandr to explain why do we have to help anybody. The President’s grandson explained: “In order to give joy. If you do it, you feel better inside”.
