Armenian Church Erects New “Masyatsotn Diocese” in Ararat Region

Yerevan-Armenia: The Armenian Orthodox Church has erected a new diocese of Masyatsotn, in the Ararat Region, Armenia by separating Ararat Region from the Araratyan Pontifical Diocese. The new diocese will be headquartered in the town of Artashat. Bishop Gevorg Saroyan has been appointed as the primate of the newly established diocese.

Established in the 4th century, the Pontifical Diocese Ararat is one of the oldest dioceses in the world, covering the city of Yerevan and the Ararat Province. It is also the largest diocese of the Armenian Orthodox Church.
