Ambassador of the Russian Federation Received by Patriarch Abune Mathias I of Ethiopia

Addis Ababa- Ethiopia: The Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Ethiopia and to the African Union – His Excellency Mr. Yevgeny Terekhin, was received by His Holiness Patriarch Mathias I in audience on September 10.
The Ambassador highlighted the longstanding ties between the Orthodox Churches of the two countries, and stressed that Russia stands with the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church.
Russia is among the countries with the longest diplomatic relations with Ethiopia, having established ties between Tsar Alexander III and Emperor Menelik II in the late 1800’s.
