Yanukovych presents Order of Merit I to Patriarch of Georgia

KYIV, January 15. /UKRINFORM/. Ukrainian Ambassador to Georgia Vasyl Tsybenko handed the Order of Merit I over to spiritual leader of Georgia, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II, read a decree of President Viktor Yanukovych, published on January 9 over the 80th anniversary of His Holiness and the 35th anniversary of his enthronement, GHN reported.

“To present the Order of Merits I to Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II for his outstanding contribution to the development of Ukrainian-Georgian cultural and spiritual relations and long-term selfless work,” says the presidential decree.

According to the Georgian news agency, in turn, Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II expressed his gratitude to President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych and wished him and the Ukrainian people peace and prosperity.

The awarding ceremony was also attended by a delegation of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, headed by the Secretary of the Primate of the UOC, Archbishop of Pereyaslav-Khmelnytsky and Vyshnevsky Oleksandr.
