Addis Abab- Ethiopia: The venerable members of the  Holy Synod of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church commemorated the martyrs of Oromiya regional state in the Divine Liturgy and special prayers, held on 27th October 2019 at Menbere Tsebaot Holy Trinity Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church. Members of the Holy Synod attended the ceremony presided by His Holiness Abuna Mathias, the Co-Patriarch of the Ethiopian Church.

During the ceremony, H.G Abuna Eliyas (Archbishop of Sweden and its Environs) stated that “the attacks were out of control that we are still unable to determine the fate of a number of our faithful. We are unsure if they are dead or alive”.

The Synod strongly condemned the act of governmental security bodies for their carelessness and failure in protecting the Churches and the Christian faithful.

Attacks and intimidations are on the go in Oromiya state. According to the secretariat office of Western Arsi dioceses, the victims are unable to get proper medical treatment. Archbishop of the dioceses, H.G Abuna Henok has written a letter to the Ethiopian Red Cross association seeking their help and assistance for the victims. He also spoke to the victims over the phone and also held discussions with the family members of the victims living in the capital city of Addis.
