Would have been more appropriate to have erected a statue of Our Lord Jesus Christ or the Most Holy Theotokas! I do not think this was merely an egotisical thing but some thought should have been given to project and its possible effect!
Why did the Patriarch erect a statue of himself?
And golden-colored too!
Have never heard of statues being erected in the Orthodox Faith! 🙁

i translated the offensive news to our friens on the facedbook, no comments have been done, but myself , if the patriarchate is wise enough , the statue will never be erected, so many poor need shelter, ethiopia does need food, money , drugs and many many faces of help. let the patriarche melt this bad statue to atone his sin > our lord will never accept such pagan act.
