Unique Dinner of St. Irene’s Monastery Held at Stathakion Center

A step into the past of Greek culture was experience by all at the Sacred Patriarchal and Stavropegial Orthodox Monastery of St. Irene Chrysovalantou Afternoon Luncheon at the Stathakion Cultural Center in Astoria, New York. The event was held on Sunday, February 24th. Traditional Greek cuisine with folklore music, dancing by the school’s children by DJ Stamati Tsilimos entertained all. During the Divine Liturgy Service in the morning, Meletios Bougas was ordained into the priesthood. Dr. Vasiliki Filiotis, Principal of St. Irene Chrysovalantou School was honored for her outstanding service to Greek-American education. The Greek American Federation of Teachers presented a “Three Hierarchs Award” to Dr. Filiotis. “Dr. Filiotis is being honored for her tireless contributions to the Hellenic education and culture for many years,” said Dr. John Antonopoulos. “She has been perpetuating our Hellenic values and language. She is a very active and productive President of Prometheus Teachers Organization in New York.”
Dr. Filiotis holds a Ph.D. in Political Science, Master of Science in Education and Political Science, with a Master of Arts degree in Philosophy from CUNY Graduate Center. “The Greek communities pay millions for Greek Studies in universities. Our children should take advantage of this opportunity,” she explained. We support Modern Greek language studies and urge all youth to enroll.” Educator Vasiliki Filiotis is accomplishing this goal through her unique mission at the Sacred Patriarchal and Stavropegial Orthodox Monastery of St. Irene Chrysovalantou,under the Jurisdiction of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople.
