The state of Victoria and Greece are going to discuss on the update of the memorandum signed in the early 90′s about teaching Greek in public schools.

The proposal was made by the Minister for Multicultural Affairs and Citizenship, Nikos Kotsiras, in a meeting with the Deputy Foreign Minister for Hellenism abroad, Costas Tsiaras. Tsiaras accepted Kotsiras’ proposal and agreed to consider hosting an exhibition of the treasures of Mount Athos in Victoria.

“We really want to host an exhibition of Mount Athos’ treasures. If Greece agrees to send this exhibition, it would be a pleasure to host it in the Museum of Victoria,” Kotsiras said. Tsiaras commited to vet the Australian proposal.

During his stay in Melbourne, the Deputy Foreign Minister met with the leader of the state opposition, Daniel Andrews, as well as the Shadow Minister for Seniors and Ageing, Jenny Mikakos, and met with members of the Diaspora.

It is said that the exhibition will include magnificent icons, monumental paintings, original manuscripts and exquisite miniature artifacts, so that visitors will get to know Byzantine institutions and Mount Athos’ artistic legacy.
