ETHIOPIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH SIGNS MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING (MOU) WITH UNICEF FOR THE WELL BEING OF CHILDREN AND WOMEN IN ETHIOPIA
Addis Ababa: On 2nd of August 2016, UNICEF, Ethiopian orthodox Church, and other major religious institutions signed MOU on implementing effective programs for the protection of children and women in the country. The UNICEF Ethiopian representative Gillian Mellsop said that religious institution can bring positive changes at large-scale.
Speaking on behalf of Ethiopian Orthodox Church Patriarch, Abune Mathias, EOTC Deputy General Manager Dr.Abba Hailemariam Melese said that EOTC has a greater responsibility to protect the rights of children. He also said that mothers have an irreplaceable role in the family and for this reason, they need respect and proper care.
