The Traditional Carols Concert “Sunrise High Above” At The Patriarchal Palace

The traditional carols concert entitled “Sunrise High Above”, organised by Basilica Press Centre of the Romanian Patriarchate, took place in “Patriarch Teoctist” Aula Magna of the Patriarchal Palace, in the presence of the Patriarch of Romania. Besides His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel also present were His Grace Ciprian Campineanul, Assistant Bishop to the Patriarch, His Grace Varlaam Ploiesteanul, Assistant Bishop to the Patriarch and His Grace Varlaam Prahoveanul, Assistant Bishop to the Archdiocese of Bucharest.

Present at the concert were collaborators and supporters of the Basilica Press Centre, of the other departments of the Patriarchal Administration and of the Archdiocese of Bucharest, of the central and local public institutions, members of the Standing meetings of the Church National Council and of the Eparchial Council of the Archdiocese of Bucharest, professors of the Faculty of Orthodox Theology of “Patriarch Justinian” and of the Orthodox Theological Seminary of Bucharest, as well as other guests, over 800 spectators in all.

Tonight the “Symbol” chorus of children and youth of the Romanian Patriarchate, “Nicolae Lungu” chorus of the Romanian Patriarchate and the
“Te Deum Laudamus” men’s chorus of Bucharest performed during the concert.

To end with, the Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church delivered a speech in which he underlined the importance of carols in people’s lives.

“Due to the harmonious balance between words and music, to the beauty and depth of the theological teachings, the carols are both Christmas gifts for our fellow beings and a thanksgiving and praising offering brought to God-the-Giver. The carols are designed to revive the missionary conscience in the Church of Christ, because the mission to announce the love of God through words and deeds is a vocation of all Christians. Just like long time ago, Christ comes to us in many aspects, as a caroller or as a stranger pilgrim, through the humble faces of the homeless people, of the children and of the old people abandoned, of the poor and of the sick, of the hungry and helpless ones”, said His Beatitude.
