The Patriarch Of Romania Opened The Exhibition Of Icons And Crosses “The Orthodox Creed”

26-10-2010

The exhibition of icons and crosses of the “Orthodox Creed” was opened at the Patriarchal Palace of Bucharest. The exhibits come from several monasteries of the Archdiocese of Bucharest, as well as from the collection of the Romanian Patriarchate. Among the items displayed there is the icon of the Holy Trinity by painter Parvu Mutu from Sinaia Monastery, icons of wood and glass, crosses and books from the 17th century till those recently printed.

The exhibition was opened by His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel who underlined the fact that the icons and crosses show the man’s answer to the love of the Holy Cross.

“It is a great joy for us to see expressions of the faith, joy and beauty that faith inspire concentrated in an exhibition. All these icons and crosses worked liturgically and artistically, either as an expression of the piety of the faithful or as the people’s artistic expression, show us the man’s answer to the love of the Holy Trinity revealed through Jesus Christ. The fact that lots of crosses have flowers engraved in filigree, in metal, wood or enamel on them shows that the Holy Cross is both a sign of a sacrificial love and of the joy of the Resurrection. The majority of the crosses displayed here show us the truth that we look for every Sunday at the Matins “”the joy come through the cross”, said His Beatitude.

The event was organized on the occasion of the feast of Saint Pious Dimitrie, Protector of Bucharest, to mark the year of the Orthodox Creed from the exhibitions’ point of view too, said Rev. Patriarchal Counsellor Florin Serbanescu, from the Department of Cultural Patrimony of the Romanian Patriarchy.

The exhibition of the “”Orthodox Creed” will be open during the entire period of the feast of Saint Pious Dimitrie the New.
