Indian Malankara Orthodox Church
31/8/13

The Orthodox Theological Seminary journeys into a maiden venture with the release of The Journal of the Indian Malankara Orthodox Theological Studies. The first volume of the biannual journal was released by Catholicose and Malankara Metropolitan HH Moran Mar Baselius Marthoma Paulose II at a specially held function at the Devalokam Aramana on August 29 at 3.30pm. The first copy was received by Rev. Dr. Geevarghese Mathew, Principal of Marthoma Theological Seminary Kottayam.

The uniqueness of the Indian Theological education-programme in contrast to the western theological enterprise has been its integration of three set of priorities viz. theoria and praxis; academic excellence and contextual relevance; individual pursuit and community-witness. In the editoral preface, Chief Editor and Principal of the Seminary Fr. Dr. Jacob Kurian mentioned that the Journal intended to provide a new platform for readers and writers belonging to the Orthodox Church in India to engage in ecumenical dialogues with those already in the field of theological interaction both at national and global level.

Articles included in Vol.1 No.1 (August 2013) are:

1. Bar Hebraeus and the Syrian Orthodox Liturgy – Fr. Dr. B. Varghese
2. Gregorian Answer to the Question ‘Who am I?’ – Fr. Dr. Bijesh Philip
3. The Pre-Portuguese Konkan Nazranis or the early Apostolic Communities of the Western Coast of India – Fr. Dr. Jacob Kurian
4. The Christmas Story of the Synoptic Gospels as the Source for an Indian Ecclesiology – Fr. Dr. Reji Mathew
