The Holy Trinity – Feast of Basilica Press Centre

26/6/13

The feast of the Holy Trinity is the day when Basilica Press Centre of the Romanian Patriarchate is celebrating – two of its branches, radio and television having been named Trinitas.

On this occasion, Monday, 24 June 2013, the Divine Liturgy and the Te Deum will be celebrated in the Patriarchal Cathedral from 9.00 – 12.00 hours, in the presence of the employees of Basilica Press Centre.

From 12.00 – 13.00 hours, a festive moment will be held in the Patriarchate Palace – Patriarch Teoctist Aula Magna – when the documentary entitled “Trinitas Radio – 15 years of missionary activity” will be watched and the books recently published by Basilica News Agency, Lumina newspaper, Trinitas Radio, and Trinitas Television will be launched. We remember some of them:

-“Words and Images in the Life of the Church” album that Basilica News Agency published on the occasion of the anniversary of five years of activity of the News Agency of the Romanian Patriarchate, at Basilica publishing house;
-“Pilgrim in Bucharest”, a guide for visitors, at Basilica publishing house;
– The book entitled “Gospel of the Day”, author priest Dumitru Paduraru, Trinitas publishing house, Media Christiana Collection, Trinitas Radio Series
-the book entitled “Notes from a Porch”. Lights of “Lumina newspaper, author Daniela Sontica, at Trinitas publishing house, Media Christiana Collection, Lumina series;
-“Trinitas Radio” documentary – 15 years of media discipleship;
-the DVD film: “Building yard of the Cathedral for the Nation’s Salvation”. Construction of the infra-structure: November 2010 – April 2013;
-mp3 CD of “The Little Bible” – 40 Bible episodes of the Old and New Testaments, drafted by Trinitas Radio station;
-audio CD “Chants for Saints Emperors Constantine and Helen” performed by first singer Gabriel Radasanu, and published by Trinitas Radio station.

Basilica Press Centre was set up at the initiative, with the blessing and care of His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, on 27 October, on the feast of Saint Pious Dimitrios the New, Protector of Bucharest, with the following branches:

-Trinitas Radio station set up in 1996 and broadcasting for the first time on 17 April 1998;
-Lumina newspaper, which appeared for the first time on 7 February 2005;
-Trinitas Television channel which has been broadcasting since 27 October 2007;
-Basilica News Agency which was set up on 27 October 2007 and started operating at the feast of the Holy Trinity on 16 June 2008;
-The Press Office of the Romanian Patriarchate set up after 1990 and which has become part of Basilica Press Centre since January 2008.

The branches of Basilica Press Centre are designed to intensify the spiritual mission of the Church, in a world marked by secularisation, to preach the Gospel of Christ through a topical message, available to the large audience. The content of these media channels is not exclusively religious, but the manner in which all the aspects of the contemporary world are dealt with is a Christian one.

The role of Basilica Press Centre is by far a missionary one, not commercial. In a world dominated by communication, the Church remains faithful to the traditional means of conveying the right faith, but it is also opened to the modern technology in the missionary work.

“Due to its activity, Basilica Press Centre of the Romanian Patriarchate marks an evolution in the field of the religious communication and an enrichment of the media universe in Romania. Whatever makes unique the activity of Basilica Press Centre in the Romanian media represents the consistence and diversity of the information with religious content provided in real time by a team that combines professional experience, missionary conscience and enthusiasm of the youth” (+ Daniel, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, Media Mission in the Light of the Holy Trinity, Speech at the feast of the Most Holy Trinity of 16 June 2008).

The purposes of Basilica Press Centre are formulated in article 5 of its Statutes of organisation and operation:

-cultivating an active relationship and a fruitful collaboration between clergy and faithful, between Church and society;
-presenting in the society the institutions, activities and attitudes of the Romanian Orthodox Church, with openness to dialogue and cooperation;
-cultivation of the values of Christian morals and promotion of the cultural-educational activity in society and supporting the development of the local communities;
-publicising some social-philanthropic and cultural-missionary programmes;
-promotion of objectivity and observation of the principles of the journalistic deontology when relating the events and presenting the persons and institutions;
-establishment of partnerships with press, cultural and educational institutions from the country and abroad;
-encouraging the dialogue of the Christian faith with philosophy, science, art and other fields of manifestation of the human spirit creator of perennial values.
