The Holy Synod Sustains The Definition In The Romanian Constitution Of The Family Based On The Marriage Between A Man And A Woman

From 4 – 5 July 2013, the working session of the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church was held under the chairmanship of His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel. We mention some of the decisions taken:

– In the context of the public debates held of late concerning the project for changing the Romanian Constitution, the Holy Synod sustains the definition in the basic law of the “family as the natural basic element of the existence and development of the society based on the marriage freely consented between a man and a woman, on their equality and on the right and duty of the parents to provide the growth, education and training of the children benefitting of the support and protection of the state and society.

– Following the analysis and estimation of the final results of the census of the population of Romania in 2011, the Holy Synod approved a new pastoral – social programme – methods and means of strengthening the pastoral service at local (eparchial), regional (metropolitan) and national level.

The Romanian Orthodox Church will intensify the pastoral service with the faithful in order to promote and protect the natural traditional family institution designed to diminish the number of the divorces, abortions, domestic violence, abandon of the children etc.

– The eparchies of the Romanian Patriarchate will sustain the European civic initiative called “One of Us” designed to raise the level of juridical protection in the European Union of the dignity, right to life and integrity of every human being ever since conception.

– The Holy Synod took notice with appreciation and joy of the multiple activities of the eparchies of the Romanian Diaspora for keeping and promoting the Romanian spirituality.
